The Dogon Lights: Ride It

San Francisco, California band THE DOGON LIGHTS blend elements of world music, hip hop, electronica, and more to create a funky and energetic dance atmosphere. Their most recent 9 song LP “Ride It” was released mid-October and the brilliant lead-off title track is featured here today, a great sample of their many styles. Also highly recommended are “Dragon Rider” and “Love is Like the Sun” other beautiful songs from the inpiring release that are on non-stop repeat this weekend.

The Dogon Lights blend ancient instruments together with the modern, such as the Sintar and Guimbri from Morocco, the Kamale Ngoni, Calabash and Djembe of Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea, with bass, guitar, and flute from the West. The band name is apparently inspired by the Dogon people of Mali who believe they are descendants of the Sirians who come from the star Sirius, also known as the Dog Star.

The album is available through Jumpsuit Records at the BC link below, under a name-your-price model.
