Signal-to-Noise: Something to Say
Signal-to-Noise is the brand new project by Michael Downing, a talented electro-rock songwriter & producer based in Chicago who draws on influences from a diverse range of favorites (e.g. Grizzly Bear, Andrew Bird, and Supertramp, etc). Starting this past January, Michael locked himself away in his Chicago apartment, where he composed and produced his first full length Signal-to-Noise album, a standout piece of work that is available via his Soundcloud page or central band website.
Not too long back, in December of this last year Downing abandoned a career in neuroscience to become a full-time musician. Up until that point all of his major life decisions were based on fear; fear of disappointing others; fear of becoming impoverished; fear of the consequences of not following the beaten path. He had forgotten that life is an experience, an ever-changing amalgamation of thoughts and feelings whose substance can only be defined by the experiencer.
Signal-to-Noise is a reminder to live in the present, look inwards, turn down the noise, and find your signal.
