On May 21st 2005, Black Violin, two classically trained musicians, took home the title ‘2005 Apollo Legends’ which catapulted them to international fame. These two gentlemen, Kev Marcus and Wil B along with their DJ TK have created the ultimate synergy between classical and Hip-Hop music, and with it an incredible opportunity to reach young children.
The duo also are avid producers and writers which is demonstrated on their debut self-titled album that gives the listener pop music from a violins’ point-of-view. Black Violin’s ardor for music and neo-classical, innovative, urban style of violin mixtures, vocals, and funk has exploded onto the music scene with the consistency of listeners wanting more and more.
The duo, both graduates of Dillard Performing Arts High School, used their musical talents to earn full scholarships to college. Now Black Violin wants to make sure that America’s young people get the same exposure to the arts, and therefore the same opportunity that they did. [ioda]

Cool music. My brother used to play the Violin, and he loves this music. Every time he hears it, he writes down the notes and tries to do it.
You may want to try contacting Black Violin directly with your question at: http://www.blackviolin.net/. They also have a MySpace at: http://www.myspace.com/dknex

I’ll check those 🙂
Offhand I’d say “The California Guitar Trio” has some of the more interesting classical/contemporary covers utilizing some blazing acoustic guitar. “Zox” also has a nice violin laced cover of Canon that really helped them gather crowds early on when they released their first album in Rhode Island. They mix violin/rock/reggae.
The Black Watch (pre-2000), Porcelain, Yellowcard, Ben Jelen are some other groups that use violin/rock mixtures that may be interesting to you. Hopefully someone else can suggest a few others.
Very nice song. I play violin and Iove those new styles mixing classical and other popular genres.
