Version 2.0 (or is this 4.0?)

Before the weekend hits, I wanted to update everyone on the ground zero progress 🙂

It’s been over 72 hours of coding, collaboration, and flexing the brainpower to the limit, but the IR Family has a pretty damn slick new website and some new ways of getting our content out to you.

If you have been previously visiting any of our Regional show websites (for example http://socal.insomniaradio.net) you’ll notice the URL now forwards to IR SoCal’s category page here on the main site.

Everyone’s RSS feeds remain the same.

Wait, just a single website? Yep! We decided it’s easier for our listeners, and easier for us to manage. And hey, doesn’t it look slick? Well, the credit for the layout goes to Brian Gardner and his Revolution Magazine theme. Ok, I’m rambling. This entire process though grueling, has been a blessing in disguise.

Use that GET IN TOUCH tab up there to reach out with any suggestions, feedback, etc.

Enjoy the weekend gang, and keep checking back for new content across the entire network.

J.

  1. @Jason,

I have iMP, Daily Dose, IR Main, Double Shots, Live in the Lounge, NY, NZ, SF, Insomnia Video, Resonate.TV, and Owned 360, and will have as much stuff there from whenever I first subscribed to those feeds (varies).

I have a bunch of episodes downloaded as well that probably go back a fair bit (no set lists though), if you need those – let me know if you do. Also, I made some copies of *parts* of the setlists for some of the episodes in 2007 for stuff I wanted to come back and check out at a later stage – http://shehaal.backpackit.com/pub/1174526

Can you log into your Gmail account and accept the chat request please, as then I can share the feeds with you (just the odd way the friends list has been implemented in Google Reader).

    Awesome, sounds great!

  2. Hey Jason,

hmm could you do the same thing with a script (php or something) to take the xml and display it on the site? I’ve used magpierss for similar things.

Love the IR live idea too btw. Listening right now. How often is the content rotated around?

Bummer I didn’t look too closely at the archive.org stuff as I was heading out the door. However, do you use Google Reader? That keeps a copy of every item of every feed you’re subscribed to. If you don’t, create a Google account and I’ll share them with you so you can download them. Doesn’t include all the setlists for the more recent entries, as you didn’t include those in the feeds lately, but it could be a start. 😛

  3. @Stuart: I never even considered Google Reader! I have an account but didn't actively use it.

Did you subscribe to every show? Hey, just share whatever you have, my gmail address for google reader is insomniaradio@gmail.com

THANK you for the brilliant suggestion.

IR Live Content will be rotated very frequently. Right now it's just spinning 8 hours of pre-produced 1 hour blocks I prepared, but we'll get into single tracks and specials starting next week.

    Rock on;

    J

  4. @Stuart! Thank ya VERY much for the kudos. I’ve noticed the widget causing problems in firefox too. Firefox doesn’t do well with xml based flash at all. I’m trying to figure out a good use for that box where the widget is now, any ideas?

I love the archive.org suggestion, but the snapshots are all 6 months old 🙁

  5. G’day Jason & the IR crew,

I agree about the blessing in disguise – the new website is fantastic. It looks so much cleaner and is much easier to navigate than the old version. (The only downside for me is the IR widget on the right-hand-side causes Firefox to use up memory exponentially with each IR page load, eventually causing the browser to crash – so I’ve had to block that.) I can’t wait to see how things will be looking over the next week.

As far as the show notes go, see how you go with retrieving them from the Web Archive:

    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://insomniaradio.net/
    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://sf.insomniaradio.net/
    (etc)

Keep up the great work!! 🙂

  6. @DavidS: Easy taskmaster! Hehe. I’ve been giving preference to shows which have produced more recently. Just got IR:SF back on board though, and am working on the rest. One of the major issues is that all of our shownotes were wiped out 🙁

Thanks so much for the props. I really feel excited about all this again.

  7. I can’t say enough good things about the new website. There is only one thing that I can think of to ask. Where are the following shows:

    IR Turkey
    IR SF
    IR Florida
    IR Orlando
    IR Baltimore
    IR NY
    and Live In The Lounge

I suspect that they aren’t there because they haven’t posted anything recently….

  8. Ha, that’s us Americans for ya, living in our bubble 🙂
Thanks for the feedback – there’s also a 2nd header with the remaining logos, and I’m working on some rotational html.

Really appreciate all of your comments this week! I need to remember to shoot some of our content across BT for you…
