Fujiya & Miyagi: 16 Shades of Black & Blue
From Ventriloquizzing, the eighth album released since they formed in 2000. Fujiya & Miyagi are a four piece band from Brighton on the South coast of England.
They are self-described as being heavily influenced by Krautrock bands, Can and Neu! as well as the early 1990s electronic music artist, Aphex Twin. The origins of the band’s name come from a character in the film, The Karate Kid as well as the brand of a record player. The lines “We’re not a couple of shadowboxers/Oh/Oh/Just two Anglo-Saxons” from the 2008 track Butterfingers and “We were just pretending to be Japanese” from Photocopier may be comments on the band name and how it is perceived.
