Chance: Happening

January 2, 2009
Written by Charles Stepczyk

ChanceAfter a notable period over which he issued three EP sized collections of singles, Los Angeles based musician Chance has just released his newest long awaited pièce de résistance, “”Famous Words & Alibis”, which also happens to be his first full length endeavour.

Building upon the success of his first fifteen singles, Chance continues to push the creative envelope, exploring new soundscapes and challenging himself and no doubt – his well outfitted backing yeomen of instrumental exellence, The Choir.

The newest single on FW&A is dubbed “Happening” and opens with repetitious yet lush and solitary dream-like chords which recall the psychedelia of the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”.   The song takes flight shortly after this point dipping and cresting in perfect rhythm, taking the listener on a satisfying and introspective journey.  I don’t have the answer on the exacts behind this creative wonder, but its damned perfect setup for a crowd to sing along to live, and even to watch the Rock ‘n Roll Granny perform to in Chance’s first loose form lip-dub video, of which he has created a handful already.

There will be more Chance on the SoCal feed shortly, so please do come back for a few more of our favorite selections.  I liked this track so much, I wanted you to hear this first in the New Year – but rest assured the others are coming very soon.

To purchase “Famous Words & Alibis”, simply head on over to Chance’s well organized, stocked storefront or you can also buy digitally at e-music or amazon.   [cs]
