Today, October 18th, is Jamaican National Heroes Day and we’ve got lots of musical gifts by the late Michael Campbell (aka MIKEY DREAD) coming at you from across the network. (Read our tribute here, and download the final episode of Dread at the Controls here.)
On the Dose we thought it would be wise to feature African Anthem, the most sampled dub record ever made. It has been Mikey Dread’s masterpiece when it comes to dub albums, and was sampled by numerous American Hip-Hop artists.
The album also represents the number one Jamaican Reggae Radio Show ‘Dread at the Controls’ on JBC (Jamaica Broadcast Corporation) produced by Mikey Dread in the 70’s. “African Anthem” incorporates the jingles and sound effects that brought Mikey Dread to fame for his award winning radio show.
