Fairchild: Neighbourhoods
Aussies stranded in Manchester, FAIRCHILD have returned in denim-clad vengeance with their fresh single Neighbourhoods – a gristly, trailblazing throwback to 1980s new wave and dance-rock. The track was produced by friend and collaborator Catherine Marks (Foals, The Killers, Wolf Alice), who facilitated the band in throwing caution to the wind and letting their freak flag fly with pure sawtooth riffage, soaring guitar solos and sensual, muscular vocals.
Neighbourhoods was written during a series of pre-production sessions in Gold Coast, Australia, during which FAIRCHILD worked individually and in small groups to trade instruments, mix sounds and experiment with song ideas. Throughout this exacting four-month period of brainstorming, the band began to recognize parallels between their recordings and the songs they’d always loved. Channeling the restless groove-ability of Talking Heads and the dance floor sensibilities of INXS, Neighbourhoods is a worthy inclusion to FAIRCHILD’s recent stream of 1980s musical praises.
