Garlic Kings – Shoulder to Shoulder
In our most recent dive into the world of celtic music near St. Paddys we ran into the following self described “folk-punk-rock” eight-piece from Saint Petersburg, Russia, who started pulling off their first high energy live performances in 2009. The musicians adhere to a position of ‘No politics No racism’. The music is best described as thus:
It represents rather a fascinating mix of pirate, sea and port romance, boisterous punk, covers of popular songs unusually interpreted, all of it made rich with a fair portion of folk instruments, flavoured with Celtic jigs and spiced with a decent spoonful of cynical humour. The main orienting points in the band’s music are world-famous ‘pillars’ of the genre: Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, The Tossers, The Pogues.
Today’s excellent featured track is from the 2011 release, “On the Shores of the Baltic” and a taste of their live performance of the same title follows in the video below.
