The Healing: Tonopah
I recently had the pleasure of listening to a few new songs from the London based band, The Healing. The third track off their brand new EP especially caught my attention as it progressed, describing the passionate young teenage memories of passing through a very small dusty town about midway between Las Vegas and Reno in the Nevada desert, namely Tonopah. When personally traveling to these two cities (Vegas/Reno), I’m usually taking indirect routes, rather than the highway directly between the two, but perhaps one of these days I’ll make sure to take a wrong, or perhaps a needed right turn at Bishop, CA. I love the visuals evoked with the lyrics as they tell a story but don’t get too overly specific, letting the listener get a bit more personally involved in imagining the romanticism and mystery behind this loosely described locale.
The Healing are a multinational group with members from all across the board, from England, to the USA and France, so they’ve likely played everywhere except maybe the town behind the song, or have they?
The Healing’s full line-up was completed in the autumn of 2013, and this past 22nd of August they released their debut EP ‘Childhood Home’. It was recorded at 123 Studios London with acclaimed engineer/producer Brett Shaw, and is available for download at the Bandcamp link below.
