Kye Alfred Hillig: Ugly We Were Born
Its time for a change for Tacoma, Washington based singer-songwriter Kye Alfred Hillig. Apparently his last two records have drawn heavy from roots, folk and Americana but as a songwriter Hillig felt it was time for a change.
His newest album “Real Snow” is his third studio album as a solo artist, and describes as his version of a ‘folk hip hop record’, full of everything but the acoustic guitar his fanbase has grown accustomed to.
“I hope this change in sound is a surprise, a shock really” Hillig explains. “Not that I want to alienate people but I want to shake things up. I want people to be as excited about different and new as I am.”
We took a listen to the entire release and are happy to say its solid all the way through, one of the best releases we’ve had the privilege to hear thus far in 2014. A few of our other absolute favorite tracks from this eclectic 12 song full-length include “Useless Keys”, “Remains of Elephants”, “When You Were a Waitress”, and the attention grabbing opener “Cold Front.” Do yourself a favor and check the Bandcamp site below where he is currently offering up this entire release for FREE.
