The Cloud Room: Mrs. Marquis de Sade
The Cloud Room’s new song Mrs. Marquis de Sade is the first featured single off the forthcoming You Be My Heart compilation benefiting the 826 National non-profit.
The compilation, due out December 9 is dedicated to offering “a variety of inventive programs that provide under-resourced students, ages 6-18, with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills.” San Francisco filmmaker and songwriter, Devon Reed, who volunteers with 826 National initiated, financed and wrote all the songs which were presented to the bands to select the ones that called to them and in turn give their own unique twist. The result is a compilation featuring a who’s who in the indie rock scene with artists such as Bowerbirds, The Cloud Room, Maps & Atlases, Horse Feathers and Mark Kozelek all participating to support the nonprofit’s aim.
On “Mrs. Marquis de Sade”, the The Cloud Room interprets Devon Reed’s song of longing with a backdrop of torture-themed wordplay, a killer drum beat and squeezes out every last hook from each corner of the song.
