Stefan Weiner: Fearful Lullaby
A new solo EP, Potluck, arrived earlier today via Brooklyn based artist Stefan Weiner and we were lucky enough to get to spend part of this evening with it. Its solid from beginning to end with guest accompaniments done right, perfectly placed on each track. The album features the rising singer-songwriter Mree, the r&b soulstress Anais Aida and several others.
While we loved the soulful and protective yet haunting lyrics underlying “Fearful Lullaby”, we also enjoyed the other offerings, primarily latching onto the snowfed wanderlust of “Driving Northbound”, the sixth track on the seven song release. Potluck cements itself as one of the best we’ve heard this year, driven by a talent that likely has no dearth of interesting stories to tell. Stefan states on his website that the track today was first written and re-recorded in 2006, and we appreciate the fact he’s tinkered with it and honed over the course of a few years.
Along with the album release, Stefan is also offering up free songwriting workshop one-on-ones to anyone who submits lyrics and a demo at http://stefanweiner.com/submit. In each one-on-one, he will meet with writers via Skype and go through their song with them line-by-line. Together he will work with the structure and the lyrics to make the song more personal, but also more universal. Visit the ‘Submit’ link above for more info on the one-on-ones.
