yOya: King of Nothing
Childhood friends Alex and Noah honed their musical chops in Corvalis, Oregon before moving to California to study music thus ending up in LA, forming what became yOya in 2009. They self-released their debut album, Nothing To Die in the spring of 2010 and this coming month brings their follow up EP, Go North, on New Professor Music.
Sitting here in the dark with headphones on during this hot valley night, a cool mix of the frantic yet sweet instrumental fluidity of the Dodos washes over me, with the Swedish sounding pop structures of Loney, Dear or maybe even Jónsi. As summer has arrived excellent new single has become the theme to heading north on an approaching vacation, the imagination firing along to the soul stirring unique electronic driven harmonies. I think I’ve found the soundtrack to July and likely far far beyond.
