The Petticoat Tearoom: Love Isn’t Gone
While most residents enjoyed hot dogs and beer watching the Baltimore Ravens play in the Super Bowl last February, The Petticoat Tearoom were busy recording their sophomore self-titled album at Baltimore’s Wright Way Studios. “The city was on fire. There were people getting crazy. The energy was incredible. We could feel it during the process,” lead vocalist Tomas Pagan Motta said. “It was a recording focused on feel. We had to really feel the groove and vibe for each song, which led to every take being different.”
The Petticoat Tearoom tackled the recording process at Wright Way Studios in an out of the ordinary way as well. All tracks on the album were recorded during one weekend, live and to tape. As they recorded the neo-folk album defined by Motta’s soaring, breathy vocals dipped in a warm reverb, the band could feel the energy present in the city. “It just seemed like that’s what this record needed – a raw, tight recording process with the spontaneity of live performance and the warm tone of tape,” Motta said.
The tracks on the album have honesty unavoidable by live performance. “Love Isn’t Gone,” for example, starts off with the energetic strumming of an acoustic guitar and soon builds up to showcase Motta’s soaring vocals.
Their self titled album delivers this July 30th. Check the links below for more information on this very talented group. It’s one of the more stirring and well-crafted songs we’ve heard in quite some time, channeling the freewheeling vibes of The Eagles, Steve Miller Band and Zeppelin to take us into the carefree summer months.
