Portland, Oregon group, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside’s newest record Untamed Beast (February 19, 2013) is the follow up to 2011’s Dirty Radio. They recorded the album’s 11 tracks with Adam Landry and Justin Collins (Deer Tick, Middle Brother) at Jackpot! Studios.
Lead singer Sallie Ford reportedly grew up in an artistic family in Asheville, North Carolina. Her father, acclaimed puppeteer Hobey Ford, has been a recipient of multiple grants from the Jim Henson Foundation, and her mother is a performing musician and music teacher. While her older sister excelled in musical theater, and her younger one loved to tap dance, Sallie studied violin. At a young age, however, she was also a capable belter, though she preferred singing harmonies to solos. “I was always overwhelmed by my performing family,” she admits, apropos of her adolescent low profile. “I preferred to be the weird one.”
