Eulogies: You Hide
In July of 2009, Dangerbird Records‘ co-founder Jeff Castelaz experienced the unimaginable. He comforted Pablo – his 6 year old son – as he passed away from cancer. Eulogies vocalist Peter Walker was bedside with the father and son, both of whom he considered great friends. Peter delicately explains how the band’s 3rd full length “Tear The Fences Down” (January 19. 2011) was born from such tragedy:
i was bedside as this little boy took his last breath. i was there to hold his father as he wept uncontrollably in his son’s room moments later.
it took months to untangle my insides to the point that i could sit down with a pencil and a guitar and confront what i had been through, but when i did i began to see the light again after more than a year of deep-rooted torment. these songs became my lifeline. this is a diary of the trauma of war, and ultimately a way out of those horrific depths.
That the album deals with incredibly heavy themes while not sounding like a product of Eels or The Cure is a testament to Walker’s sense of hope, and to the band’s ability to capture difficult times within a fun, poppy framework.
“Tear The Fences Down” is out in Digital & Vinyl on Dangerbird January 18, 2011.
