Prior to creating Record/Start in 2014, Simon was the songwriter for Manchester alternative band Carlis Star who had logged a bit of time at SXSW in addition to several other accolades.

Record/Start is said to be inspired by a great list of some of our favorite artists like Hum, Ash, Super Furry Animals, The Rentals, The Delgados, Brian Wilson and Teenage Fanclub.

Today’s feature is an impressive song, likely recorded, performed and produced in Simon’s home studio per notes about all his tracks found on the Soundcloud page. It appears to hit on several of his influences very adeptly in his own unique style, making for quite an impressive single and an artist to watch closely in 2015 and beyond.

“He comes off of his decidedly folk debut album with a new record that is decidedly not.

“The shift in sonic style on Etc. actually represents Lutsko’s newfound ability to realize a sound that he was logistically unable to record during his initial dip in the waters of record-making. This time around, Lutsko has captured a sound that curiously, but accurately, designates him one of the few musicians on Facebook listing their genre as “Folk/Funk/Blues.” [bio]

Within the first 12 months their debut single ‘Better Coast’ was featured on the 2011 NZ CMJ Music USA compilation album and in 2012, the band released their debut EP ‘Jelly Tip Lips’ and their sophomore EP ‘Tiny Terrors’. In 2014, Two Cartoons signed to boutique label Far South Records and moved to London, where they are working toward their next release.

Today’s featured track ‘Horizon Approaching’ is the first song the band wrote for their upcoming EP release on Far South, and we found it to be an exciting song of what will no doubt be a great EP to come. Another very noteworthy effort we highly recommend is the video of their first single, ‘Better Coast’, so do please check it out further below and bookmark a social site or two.

We also hope your enjoy the corresponding new video which we’ve embedded further below. The track itself is described as standing in slight opposition to Ode to Winter, the 4th track on “Birds…”, and is about the relief that Spring brings. Adam wrote it on the first warm day after a hard winter they had a few years previous.

He cited a few major influences in this endeavour, namely Animal Collective, Sunset Rubdown and Atlas Sound – as well as others.

The featured track “Introverts” takes the listener on an interesting ride, the seemingly symbiotic and dynamic musical layers leading toward the final moments as the surreal dreamlike world solidifies taking the song to wide-eyed heights into its final notes. Introverts is a stunning single, and we recommend partaking in the entire album, which can be downloaded through the band’s social sites below.

They are all presumably for the band’s upcoming debut EP which I don’t think had an official release date yet (as far as I can see).

Today’s feature, ‘Dreaming’ has a gorgeous languid build, an intriguing composition of synth meets shoegaze instrumentation that has the most satisfying payout to all those who drink up the lo-fi song in its entirety. You can also find a self-titled track and a work in progress through their Soundcloud page with more goodness to follow, no doubt.
