Many parties, road trips, and treacherous leaky basements fraught with jam sessions later, they met guitarists Austin Mendenhall and Scott Seelig – two wayfarers from D.C. and Los Angeles.

Snowmine recorded their debut LP, Laminate Pet Animal, over two days in the Summer of 2010 at Headgear Recordings with Dave Trumfio. After a month of mixing, they decided to scrap most of it, and spent the next three months re-tracking everything in a musky closet at Grayson’s apartment. They decided to make use of their living space, tracking guitars in bathtubs, and re-amping synths, vibraphones, bells, and vocals in cavernous concrete hallways.

Snowmine self-released the debut LP Laminate Pet Animal on May 3, 2011, and rumor has it a new single ‘Saucer Eyes’ was leaked on the radio a few weeks ago here in Los Angeles via KCRW.

After spending the last couple of years constructing, installing, and setting up a coffee pot in a new studio in their hometown, the Spinto Band has now offered up the fruit of their labors on their new label Spintonic Recordings.

The fruit of all this is Shy Pursuit, the third worldwide LP released by the band and a return to the self bridled means that made the Spinto Band fall in love with music. It started as a bunch of teenagers in a basement stamping cassette tapes mixed off an inherited 4 track and evolved into a bunch of dudes stamping envelopes containing LPs mixed from multitrack recording software. With the release of Shy Pursuit, the Spinto Band has embraced self-sustenance. The boys built a new studio from parts of salvaged university engineering labs and a lot of craigslist purchases in Wilmington’s back alleys. Writing, producing, and mixing at the Garden Center, allowed the band to create the album with only one approach in mind- their own. Shy Pursuit was born from months of guitar overdubs, Casio sound collecting, amplifier building, coffee runs, and Nintendo recesses.

With sounds ranging from pedal steel guitar to bass clarinet and a whole lot of vocal harmonies, each track on Shy Pursuit is intentionally open for audience exploration. “The Living Things” has a foundation of simple musical progressions and repetition that is reminiscent of some of the band’s earlier work. The band takes advantage of this simple bedrock to explore new rhythmic ideas which combine with the melody to become the main propellant of the song’s drive.
