Insomnia Radio #154: Sea Chanteys of the Submariner

April 15, 2008

Submariner ScourgeAfter a two month turbulent voyage, we believe we’ve located a safespot to service the battle-scarred Insomnia Submariner, and have surfaced to bring you some chanteys from the musicians we’ve collected along our voyage while we conduct repairs.

This new episode continues somewhat where Jason left off in his final all instrumental offering; at least the first track by Saskatchewan outfit, Geronimo whom lead us into the rest of the quality mixed tracks we’ve discovered in our recent travels.

Shows will resume on a 1-2 week schedule with a few rotating regional hosts bringing you new content. Also, the Daily Dose feed is now live again with featured content pumping through the engines seven days a week, keeping us all motoring along. You can subscribe at Feedburner and on iTunes as well. We are about a week in at this point. Also, keep eye out for our regional shows as well!

If you are looking for Jason, he will be returning to podcasting, but as part of a new mixed media project he’s developing at the link farther below.

Insomnia Radio, Signing Off

March 13, 2008

This is an emotional post to write, and as such it’s going to be stripped down to the essence. I have battled this decision for awhile, but I have to say goodbye to my show, and to all of you amazing hardcore indie fans, and move on. Hopefully you all realize there is no RIGHT time to do this, just the NECESSARY time.

In the past 3 months I have resigned from what I thought would be a successful business venture for the network and myself, been screwed to the tune of over $20, 000, been handed divorce papers, left home, and lost my beloved grandfather. Yea, this is the distilled version of course…

But as they say, something’s gotta give.

I feel as if I should dedicate 5000 words to defending this decision, I feel I owe that to you. But I’m exhausted, and I’m going to ask that you trust me, that this is literally the only option that feels right in my life. You would think Insomnia Radio would bring me sanity, excitement, comfort, but that’s not the case. And though I DID really enjoy recording the last 2 episodes, I just can’t get that back. So much of what’s happened over the past year with Thimble media has unfortunately spoiled it all for me.

The emails never end, the packages never end, the maintenance never ends, the promotion never ends.

I’ve had my success with the show, and while it’s not monetary, I’m ok with that. It changed lives, literally at times, and propelled many individuals and many bands into better places. Those of you reading this, it’s my sincere hope that it’s had a positive impact on you as well.

Look, it’s not all sour grapes and depressing goodbyes. Our regional shows live on, and now that I feel I can be completely honest with you - two of them deserve to take over my show. IR: SoCal & IR: Chicago. Charles & Kara are ridiculously dedicated, have impeccable taste in music, and have the passion for all of this that I have simply lost. (This isn’t to say our other shows are equally good, but these two are in your face all the time!) You may see their content on the IR proper feed soon. I haven’t decided what to do, but I will say NOT to unsubscribe. I wouldn’t mind grabbing the mic on occasion.

I guess I could go on for pages. Bottom line: Thanks for believing, thanks for listening, thanks for spreading the word. Now, please redirect your attention to several other regional shows who are more than deserving of your ears.

Can’t think of anything else, and this was more difficult than I thought.

Keep it loud, keep it indie, and stay real;

Jason Evangelho

Version 2.0 (or is this 4.0?)

February 22, 2008

Before the weekend hits, I wanted to update everyone on the ground zero progress :-)

It’s been over 72 hours of coding, collaboration, and flexing the brainpower to the limit, but the IR Family has a pretty damn slick new website and some new ways of getting our content out to you.

If you have been previously visiting any of our Regional show websites (for example http://socal.insomniaradio.net) you’ll notice the URL now forwards to IR SoCal’s category page here on the main site.

Everyone’s RSS feeds remain the same.

Wait, just a single website? Yep! We decided it’s easier for our listeners, and easier for us to manage. And hey, doesn’t it look slick? Well, the credit for the layout goes to Brian Gardner and his Revolution Magazine theme. Ok, I’m rambling. This entire process though grueling, has been a blessing in disguise.

Use that GET IN TOUCH tab up there to reach out with any suggestions, feedback, etc.

Enjoy the weekend gang, and keep checking back for new content across the entire network.

J.

Do Not Adjust Your RSS Feed (Experimentations)

February 20, 2008

rss_icon.jpg

Hey gang, over the next few days you may be receiving duplicate content if you’re subscribed to Insomnia Radio, Daily Dose, or the IR Regional feeds. We’re leaning towards funneling all of our shows towards the main www.insomniaradio.net website, and it’s going to be involve some research, a bit of luck, and some crazy-good Wordpress skills. Shooting for a “magazine style” layout which will highlight new shows across the network, and use category tags to keep all the RSS feeds seperate. In other words, you don’t need to change any of your feeds, we’ll have this all hammered out in a week or so. We’ll do our best to keep the errors to a minimum :-)

Insomnia Radio: Ground Zero

February 20, 2008

It’s amazing what can happen in less than 12 hours when the entire IR Family starts banging their heads together. We kicked off a private forum on NING (which will be open to all shortly), and started pooling our resources, ideas, all that fuzzy happy stuff.

Ultimately we decided to take Insomnia Radio back to where we had the most fun: Wordpress. We’ve all been brainstorming the best plugins, designs, and functionality to make our podcasting network a truly fun passion once again. So, over the next couple weeks I’ll be updating you with the Ground Zero progress. Rebuilding every site, every show, and some random thoughts as we go along.

Take care!
