My Fellow SpongesMy Fellow Sponges are an independent band from Galway, Ireland comprised of founding members Anna Mullarkey and Donal McConnon. The two met while at the University in Galway and after working on some plays together they decided to form a band. After four years of touring and writing together their sound incorporates elements of Minimalism, Folk, Bossa and more recently synth-heavy electro.

Dark, heavy and melodic, the single Air follows My Fellow Sponges’ 2013 album ‘Bonne Nuit’ and 2014 EP ‘Something Like Light’. In the words of the songwriter Anna Mullarkey; Air is about ‘The realization of how many of the problems that we fixate on in life are simply made up’. Featuring instruments such as piano, synth, saxophone, cello and three part harmonies it creates a cinematic, dreamy atmosphere with elements of synth heavy Trip-hop.

Over the years they have worked with brass ensembles, story tellers, dancers and actors in their live shows. They’ve released a atmospheric video as well for today’s featured single which we’ve embedded below. This artistic piece was created by Polish director Marta Barcikowska.
