Ruby Coast: Whatever This Is

Aurora Onatario’s Ruby Coast have re-entered the frame with unbridled enthusiasm in the form of two brand new songs from the upcoming album, two new videos, and a whack load of North American tour dates – over a full year since their last tour. The tour runs the gamut across eastern Canada and the States, hitting frosh week shows, Pop Montreal, and Northern US dates, before wrapping up at CMJ in New York City. The bulk of the band’s US dates are in support of D.C./Philadelphia buzz band Jukebox the Ghost’s album release tour.

Jukebox the Ghost invited Ruby Coast to join the dates, including their hometown Release Party on October 16, as fans of the band’s 2008 EP. Two new songs from the forthcoming album, “Whatever This Is” and “Creep Me Out”, are available for free download across the web and both tracks give a direct insight into the band’s direction and commitment to a well-crafted pop song.

While the latter is a barely-two-minute-banger with a relentless upbeat rhythm and enough hand-claps to get you on your dancing feet, its ‘Whatever This Is” that offers true insight into the band’s new material – expressive lyrics and casual melody over top of a growing swirl of minimal-turned-manic guitars, horns, keys, bass and drums.

The upcoming album will be out in 2011. [themusebox]
