Fulton Read: Synchronize

January 30, 2010

Free, creative commons piano rock from Austin’s Fulton Read. But there’s more to today’s Daily Dose than just a title…

Austin’s Fulton Read are on a mission to promote the Creative Commons movement by offering all of their future music for free, a trend that’s becoming increasingly popular among independent artists. (applause!) In a cleverly conceived promotion, they’re releasing their newest EP “Synchronize” tomorrow, January 31st 2010.

From the band:

To help announce this new release, we’ve arranged a worldwide graffiti collaboration of artists tagging the word “synchronize” on the same day (Jan 31st) all around the world. We’re really stoked to have several artists from the US, UK, Canada, Russia, Germany, Indonesia, and the Netherlands involved with this project to help promote synchronicity throughout the world and take “Synchronize” into the age of converging multimedia.

But Fulton Read has a secondary mission as well, evident in the lyrics to the title track “Synchronize.” The song goes beyond our technological concept of syncing, and explores what would happen if we could sync our cultural values, spiritual and scientific, subjective and objective.

It’s deep and admirable stuff, so be sure to sync up at www.fultonread.com beginning January 31st and download the EP for free. Tag it on Twitter, and share the creative commons movement.

    Omega Lithium: Stigmata

    January 29, 2010

From their album Dreams In Formaline to be released Feb 16, 2010 on Artoffact Records

From the small Croatian town of Umag come four piece metal outfit Omega Lithium. The band’s figurehead is 19-year-old vocalist Mya Mortenssen, whose looks are on a par with her powerful and surprisingly deep voice and is definitely a force to be reckoned with by the international competition. Along with Mya, guitarist/main songwriter Malice Rime, bassist/lyricist Zoltan Harpax and drummer Torsten Nihill have created a powerfully sinister sound which occasionally brings to mind the atmospheric goth metal of acts such as Lacuna Coil and Evanescence, yet is always independent and marked by a variety of influences. Omega Lithium combine cutting metal riffs, rock elements, electro beats, machine-like coolness and haunting atmospheres at the interface of industrial, goth and metal. [IODA]

A Classic Education: What My Life Could Have Been

    January 28, 2010

Italy’s A CLASSIC EDUCATION is back, with a tour to the states in March for SXSW – a repeat performance and momentum gathering session to properly start off 2010 after last year’s CMJ highlight.

The Bologna based six piece has also started out the year with a virtual 7″ on Holiday Records, that contains the featured track “What My Life Could Have Been” alongside the Gilbert Bécaud cover, “Toi”.   Today’s track was recorded by Paul Jones in London at Unit Rad in October 2009 and was brought to our attention via Banter Management.

The best news today: The virtual 7″ is free to download below.

    Enjoy!

    Frightened Rabbit: The Modern Leper

    January 25, 2010

I was thrilled to find myself some Frightened Rabbit on IODA tonight, after falling in love with their melancholy tune “Backwards Walk” in 2008. Read up about them, go support them, and get yourself some or all of their tasty music using the links below.

Frightened Rabbit You are currently reading about Frightened Rabbit. They are a band who live in Glasgow and have done so for some time. They record in bedrooms, cupboards and kitchens. Anyone can be in Frightened Rabbit.

They have played some live shows in this city, but want to meet people from other cities, in order that they can come and blow into tubes when they play live. Lets keep pop music alive by getting it out of that dress and into a sweater.

    The Kellys: Minutes Too late

    January 24, 2010

Currently working on their fourth studio album Opus, this is a taster of what is to come

The Kellys It’s been seven years since The Kellys entered their first stage of evolution. Birthed out of the desire to create powerful, original music deeply rooted in passion and feeling, The Kellys began their quest for global recognition. Like a fine Red Wine, with plenty of seasoning and time for fermentation, the band has allowed their sound to age perfectly right along with them.

Seven years later, The Kellys are still cranking out amazing independent music! They are currently working on their fourth studio effort, Opus, to be released in the early parts of 2010. Check out our latest track, Minutes Too Late for an updated peek into The Kellys’ ever evolving sound. [MySpace]
