Los Campesinos!: My Year in Lists

December 31, 2009

Los Campesinos! - My Year in ListsHere’s a short blast of a song before the decade ends, an important list as put together by Cardiff’s LOS CAMPESINOS!   Rarely do you see lyrics for songs that earn several stars on the ‘StumbleUpon’ ratings scale, as they do here.

Clearly the band have struck a resonate nerve on “My Year In Lists” – taken from 1998’s “Hold On Now, Youngster”.

Pela: Lost to the Lonesome

December 29, 2009

PelaAs (mis)fortune may have it -  Brooklyn, NY band Pela have called it quits this September after subjected to a load of tremendous obstacles over the last few years; from recording the same album twice, to firing managers, injuries, legal battles, and record deals falling through.

Luckily before they bid goodnight, they put out the solid full length release “Anytown Graffiti”, from which today’s featured song “Lost to the Lonesome” appears on.  We thought it was timely as it takes the listener on a journey specific to this time of year.

One Day As A Lion: Wild International

December 28, 2009

One Day As A Lion is an on-going creative collaboration between two like-conscioused individuals, Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) and Jon Theodore (Mars Volta). We’re featuring this song by them just after Christmas to reflect the unprecedented and successful campaign to get RATM’s Killing In The Name to be the Christmas Number One in the UK.

Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the UK Christmas charts after a hugely popular Facebook campaign helped the Los Angeles nu-metallers snatch the Christmas number one slot from X-factor’s Joe McEdlerry.

More than half a million people downloaded the band’s famously anti-authoritarian and expletive laden track “Killing in the Name” in what was seen as a broad protest against the increasing influence of manufactured pop music. All the royalties from the sales were donated by the band to Shelter the homeless charity.

Dylan in the Movies: Josephine If You Only Knew

December 27, 2009

Dylan in the MoviesBrian Sullivan is the driving force behind Boston’s DYLAN IN THE MOVIES, on track to deliver their long awaited debut full-length “Josephine If You Only Knew” in Spring 2010 on American Laundromat Records.

This new release will feature guest appearances from the Watson Twins (Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins) and Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, Breeders, Belly), who also shares a co-write credit on the track ‘Girl With the Black Tights.’ Having recorded the album at a number of New England locales, most notably on an idyllic farm in New Hampshire, the sound is charged with an authentic sensibility that is only fitting for the band.

Dylan In The Movies new single “Josephine If You Only Knew” is now available exclusively on iTunes and was mastered by Andy VanDette at Masterdisk NYC (David Bowie, Matt Pond PA, The Wrens, Metric). Enjoy!

Dead Heart Bloom: Meet Me (Unreleased)

December 26, 2009

Dead+Heart+Bloom+DeadHeartBoomhires666Regular IR junkies may have figured out that we like some Dead Heart Bloom. Not only is the band talented and prolific, they also embrace the concept of free music (2 full lengths and 3 EP’s are completely free at this link – and in WAV & FLAC, no less) and regularly reach out to their fanbase.

Case in point: The track “Meet Me” was recently made available to the DHB mailing list for one week only, and is a rough and early recording of a track that will be included in their upcoming (and still untitled) Spring 2010 release. It’s a minimalistic recording – less is more, here – and contains some luscious melodies.

We Were Pirates: Merry Christmas

December 25, 2009

We Were Pirates is DC-area native, Mike Boggs

WWP A Christmas song for Christmas Day.

We Were Pirates is DC-area native, Mike Boggs. His new record, “Cutting Ties” is available from the links below.

Every instrument on “Cutting Ties” was performed and recorded entirely by Boggs in his home studio. The new songs are something of a departure from his earlier, quieter, more subdued style. “Cutting Ties” is louder, poppier, and catchier than the catchiest dog-catcher.

There Will Be Fireworks: In Excelsis Deo

December 22, 2009

There Will Be FireworksScottish band THERE WILL BE FIREWORKS are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album (due for release in 2010). Last month the band spent a day at Stonehaven’s Old Mill Studios to cut “In Excelsis Deo” – their seasonal offering for friends and fans alike. Recorded in literally 10 hours, “In Excelsis Deo” hints at the grandeur to be expected from the as-yet untitled sophomore album. Be excited.  [via the TWBF blog]

Make sure to download the free track via the Rack & Ruin Records Holiday sampler (pictured here) or via the free download from the band at Sound Cloud.

And as the band says on their blog, “Remember to share, because after all, Christmas is a time for giving.”
