Paper Moon: What Are You Going to Do With Me
November 30, 2009
Paper Moon are from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
For their third full-length record, Only During Thunderstorms, the band was looking for an edgier, more energetic sound that better suited their personalities. This goal was realized with the assistance of friend and up-and-coming producer Ryan Worsley (Dawntreader, Maplewood Lane), who brought new life and perspective to the songs. The first single, “What Are You Going To Do With Me?”, was released on a CDEP which has received highly favourable reviews and has charted well on national radio.
Paper Moon write songs that creatively explore universal themes. Lyrics cover such subjects as relationships, friendships and the difficulties encountered in daily life. The strength of the band’s songwriting has been recognized by a number of directors in film and television, with over 30 productions in North America and Japan featuring Paper Moon’s music. Projects range from documentaries to network TV, travel shows to Hollywood films, edgy cable TV to docudramas. [bio]

Stars Go Dim: Get over it
November 29, 2009
From their album Love gone mad
![]() |
Since their inception in late 2007, Tulsa-based pop-rocker-foursome Stars Go Dim has captured the attention of a devoted fan base as well as music critics; they took the crown in a series of both fan and industry voted music contests nationwide, including the Country Music Television’s Listener’s Choice Award. In mid-2008, The Urban Tulsa named Stars Go Dim the “best unsigned pop band in Oklahoma.” Their popularity is only strengthened by opening act performances for Switchfoot, Daughtry, Paramore, All American Rejects, The Roots, and John Mayer. Stars Go Dim boasts two Grammy nominated musicians with a musical style that blends pop, rock and smooth soul and feature engaging lyrics held together with captivating melodies. The group recently recorded a self-titled debut EP in anticipation of the first single, “Come Around.” The full-length album, Love Gone Mad, was released August 4, 2009. |

Frightened Rabbit: Old Old Fashioned (live)
November 28, 2009
For a long while here at Insomnia Radio we’ve been missing a forum for properly presenting the live tracks that we come across, and those few acoustic tracks that fall by the wayside and don’t get the promotion that the more polished studio tracks from any given artist receive.
We feel the live act is a visceral experience all its own deserving of a separate feed, one which we’ve created temporarily dubbed “LIVE & ACOUSTIC” for lack of a better name. Some of the tracks presented here will be a bit more polished and short, while some will have extra audience noise and will even approach 10-30 minutes in length due to the creative exploration taking hold during a performance. If interested in subscribing, you can do so here or via the superfeed at the link at the very top of this page.
Our first artist coming at you down this feed is Scotland’s own FRIGHTENED RABBIT, currently on Fat Cat Records and whom we have managed to catch live twice. The show is definitely all its cracked up to be – lots of energy, musicianship and a storm of emotion washing over the audience.

The Aimless Never Miss: Heart Surgery
November 28, 2009
From the “Tran EP”
![]() |
The Aimless Never Miss – from San Francisco – showcase their distinctive sound and approach on their self-titled debut released September 14 from Devil in the Woods. What began as a solo project in Cotati, CA, for singer/songwriter Jon Latimer grew into a full-on band with a rotating door of musicians and songwriters contributing to the mix. After a 2006 re-location to San Francisco a more consistent lineup has emerged along with a continuing series of successes.

Anny Celsi: Thanksgiving in Hollywood
November 27, 2009
We were recently sent a haunting track from local Los Angeles (Highland Park) based singer-songwriter ANNY CELSI via our friends at IODA, and we haven’t had a chance to get it up until today – the day after Thanksgiving, yet still in the holiday window.
This track was apparently being featured in iTunes Essentials’ ‘Thanksgiving Dinner’ collection (sandwiched between Adam Sandler & the Band) and is available as a promo track from Anny’s new CD “Tangle-Free World.” It was produced by Nelson Bragg of the Brian Wilson Band and music contributors include 60’s chanteuse Evie Sands, Phil Parlapiano (John Prine, Grant Lee Buffalo), Carl Byron (Michelle Shocked), and several more!!
Here’s an excerpt from a recent review… “…after the first few bars of the title track, this album grabbed my attention, and I turned the volume, up – way up!…Thanksgiving in Hollywood…starts out with a bit of a melancholy introduction then picks up the pace with plenty of jangly guitars (which I love) and some very cool organ and lead guitar contributing to a wonderful folk-pop sound. The mood is a bit dark and mysterious, yet uplifting at the same time. One of my favorite tracks on the album.” (Laurie Biagini)

Maserati: Monoliths
November 27, 2009
Today we feel privileged to showcase the band MASERATI, a psychedelic post-rock group from Athens, Georgia. Unfortunately they are going through some tough times; apparently a terrible tragedy struck on November 8th when their drummer Gerhardt Fuchs passed away in an accident near his home in Brooklyn. Some more information about this can be found at their website below.
This is what their label had to say about the band’s most recent endeavors:
In anticipation of their long-awaited new album coming in 2010, Athens, GA’s premier (or maybe only) psych-dance-rock-etc stalwarts collect their rare and out-of-print vinyl tracks from the past couple years onto CD for the first time. Featuring all four tracks from their blink-and-it’s-gone limited-edition split LP with Zombi, as well as their remix LP (featuring The DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy and !!!’s Justin Van Der Volgen), Passages is augmented with two previously unreleased tracks – the Moog-fueled meditative trance of Steve Moore’s “Monoliths” remix, and the positively sublime emotional heft of “Do You Hear The Nightbirds Calling You?”, all remastered from the original master tapes and packaged with eye-popping new artwork. Also included on the Enhanced CD are two brilliant videos for “Inventions (Live)” and “This Is A Sight We Had One Day On The High Mountain.” [Temporary Residence Limited]

The Gun & Doll Show: Honest Girl
November 26, 2009
From their second album, American Radio Two
![]() |
23 Nov 2009: The Gun & Doll Show celebrates the online release of their newest album, American Radio Two. It is the much anticipated sequel to the band’s last effort, American Radio One, voted one of the top 50 records of 2004 by SF Weekly. The album is a versatile and imaginative auditory trip across the radio dial, representing all brands of American music, done Gun & Doll Show style. This is post-modern pop with Killian MacGeraghty’s provocative and risk-taking songwriting style at the center. MacGeraghty is the writer, lead singer, mastermind and ringleader of what he calls “The Gun & Doll Show Cirque du Chevrolet.” |

The Blue Seeds: Lost Highway
November 25, 2009
From their self-titled debut album, this is The Blue Seeds with ‘Lost Highway’.
![]() |
“Released in Canada on March 4th of 2008, and now available in the US via iTunes and cdbaby, The Blue Seeds’ debut album was recorded in Montreal at Masterkut Studio (Patrick Watson, Lhasa De Sela) and in Faenza (Italy) with the collaboration of Dustin O’Halloran (Marie-Antoinette’s soundtrack, Sofia Coppola) from Los Angeles’ The Devics. Recorded with an “indie” sensibility, the 11 songs on the record reveal rich arrangements that include a wide variety of instruments ranging from electric guitars to analog keyboards, mellotron and vibraphone. The result is an album that is unique and original. Cinematic and very evocative, each song leads the listeners into a reverie as if they were part of a fictional road movie.” [Cyber PR] |

I Was Totally Destroying It: Come Out, Come Out
November 24, 2009
The last time we heard from Chapel Hill’s I WAS TOTALLY DESTROYING IT, they had finished an EP and were working on their debut full length. Well, that time has finally arrived – and we have managed to grab the first single off their Greyday Records released album, Horror Vacui.
Horror Vacui is a term having many meanings, although mainly revolving around the fear of being empty or empty spaces and the desire to fill that space up with something.
Get your fill, conquer those vacuian fears, and head on over to Greyday – where the new album is available for an affordable $9.
