The Marshmallow Ghosts: Shrieks

October 30, 2009

The Marshmallow GhostsHappy Halloween from the regional army of zombie programmers at Insomnia Radio.

When a chilly breeze starts wrestling the leaves to the ground, and carefully carved pumpkins take on an eerie glow, you can be sure the Marshmallow Ghosts will materialize to offer up another sweet audio treat for their favorite season.

The Marshmallow Ghosts are as ethereal as their name- neither here nor there, neither real nor imaginary, with no permanent members. They make their presence known only once a year, and they’re certainly the first house you’ll want to stop at on your trick-or-treat route (if you can find it.)

Effectively acting as the Graveface Records house band, the shape-shifting cast of boo-gooders on this inaugural release includes members of BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW, THE APPLESEED CAST, DREAMEND and CASKET GIRLS. The players change but their distinct séance sound of skin-prickling E.V.P. manifestations and eerie, haunting tones remain the same.

This special Halloween 7” hypnotic swirl picture disc (with digital download!) is a limited edition and features an extra-spooky glow-in-the-dark sleeve from Stoughton. It’s more exciting than scoring a King-Size Snickers after harvesting a pillow case worth of pennies, salt water taffy and Smarties. Turn down the lights, drop the needle on this other-worldly gem, and let the beyond-the-grave sounds creep out your Halloween party-guests this year. It’s guaranteed to make any house a haunted one.

See you at the Raven’s Grin Inn…

            Plank: Patchwork

            October 28, 2009

PlankPLANK (formerly Plank63) was formed in the Fall of 2000 in Boston, and today we felt like zipping back to 2004 to showcase a quality track called ‘Patchwork’ by this Massachusetts based group.

With the release of their 2004 CD, Symmetry, ‘Patchwork’ remained in the Top 3 of the Hard Rock category of Garageband.com for a record-breaking length of time. They have received countless national and international inquiries about them and their music. Scores of companies releasing compilation CDs have sought out to include Patchwork in their marketing materials. It’s even been adopted by some local sports organizations as a their unofficial theme song.

The band prides itself on being more than just a solid writing and recording machine, but a powerful dominating live act to be reckoned with too. Much of their reputation has been spread due to their intense and exhausting live show, where they adopted the saying: “Bring it and leave everything you’ve got onstage.” They are something to see and experience, not just heard. Saviours: We Roam

            October 27, 2009

From Oakland, CA, Saviours deliver a sharp burst of shredding, riffing metal for today’s Daily Dose with ‘We Roam’, from their newest album Accelerated Living.

Saviours “Saviours have made the necessary adjustments to deliver the goods with revitalized rage and the smell of burnt blood in the air around them. The sludge of previous efforts is all but vanished, replaced with forged steel riffage, Austin Barber’s ragged vocals, and precise, metallic authority. New lead guitarist Sonny Reinhardt (ex-Watch Them Die) pushes the band into furious, locked in riffing, making that Motorhead-meets-Exodus-meets-Born Again-era Sabbath crossover record, the one you always dreamt of, a threatening reality. Full, thick production courtesy of Phil Manley (The Fucking Champs) opens up Scott Batiste’s drums and Cyrus Comiskey’s bass to the volleys of war.” [IODA Promonet]

The Tripwires: Drawing A Blank

October 26, 2009

From the album House To House on Spark And Shine Records

House to House It is hardly surprising that the Tripwires have leapt to the very forefront of Seattle’s burgeoning power pop ‘n’ roll scene, for this is indeed a quartet of considerable pedigree and startling showmanship. Leader John Ramberg wears red pants and sings in a voice reminiscent of his mentors, Sam Cooke and Pete Ham. In a Rambergian world story and melody are as inseparable as chicken and waffles. I have believed for years that John is the world’s most under-rated songwriter, and this latest Tripwires effort is yet another horn o’ plenty bursting with compositional genius, adding to the considerable catalog of published gems from previous bands the Model Rockets and Stumpy Joe. You may also recognize John’s B-Bender pyrotechnics from his long-standing role as lead guitarist in the Minus 5, a group that certainly needs no introduction, nor deserves one. [IODA]

This Will Destroy You: The World Is Our ___

October 25, 2009

This Will Destroy YouThis Will Destroy You are an instrumental quartet from the great state of Texas who play a cascading brand of cinematic rock music. The band is made up of guitarists Chris King and Jeremy Galindo, bass player Donovan Jones and drummer Andrew Miller with Jones also playing the keyboard for live performances. They are currently signed to Magic Bullet Records.

While they recently released a new split EP, titled Field Studies, in January 2009 with the band Lymbyc Systym, we wanted to reach back to 2006, when TWDY released “Young Bear”, a six-song EP originally intended to be a demo tape – yet received very well by critics. [wiki/ioda]

Rep By Pop: Cell phone Camera

October 24, 2009

The Title Track from their new Album. See the video over there ——————————–>

Cell phone Camera Rep By Pop are a power pop trio playing infectious, danceable, synth/guitar rock. This Toronto based trio mix defiant, brooding and eager lyrics and vox with driving, sometimes funky drums and bass. Add a few absorbing synth lines for flavour. Influences dodge and dart from The Talking Heads to the The Cure to the Chili Peppers. Most of all they are an original with enough personality to back it up. A recent EP has grown in to a full length LP titled Cell Phone Camera [to be] released in September of 2009. [MySpace Bio]
