I WAS TOTALLY DESTROYING IT was born in the early months of 2007 in Durham/Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Booker and drummer James Hepler both come from over a decade of experience in the local scene( Hepler from the Saddle Creek Records act Sorry About Dresden, Booker from bands such as Strunken White, io, and also with Hepler- Erie Choir and En Garde).
When Booker’s songwriting project, En Garde, dissolved in late 2006, he and Hepler found new friends in keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Rachel Hirsh, bassist Martin Anderson, and guitarist Curtis Armstead. “We all come from completely different backgrounds and experience levels and are all at different places in our lives, but it works and Rachel, Martin, and Curtis were the secret weapons that James and I needed to re-ignite our desire to play this music”, says Booker. “Everyone brings something vital to the table, and while we may be coming from different angles, we all share a love of North Carolina’s musical history, and an affinity for catchy, simple-yet-epic rock and roll. Oh, and all 80’s pop.”
IWTDI released their debut self titled full length in October 2007, and then followed up with an EP in 2008 which is now available as a free download via the Reverb Nation link below. Expect a new full length in 2009.

In-Flight Safety soars to great heights with their latest, we are an empire, my dear. Last winter, the Halifax based four-piece took to the proverbial woods and recorded in Fox River, Nova Scotia with producer Laurence Currie (Sloan, Wintersleep). The result of their seclusion is a 12-track collection of royal and poignant pop songs.
Currie temporarily relocated from Toronto to the sleepy village’s old schoolhouse, joining the crew –John Mullane (vocals/guitar), Brad Goodsell (bass), Daniel Ledwell (guitar/keyboard) and Glen Nicholson (drums) – to create we are an empire, my dear.
Converting the schoolhouse’s ballroom into a live room and hallway into a makeshift control room, the group left just enough living space to keep cabin fever at bay during three merciless blizzards.
Perhaps it was the late night domino games, mini-stick hockey matches, all-hour writing sessions or the friendly townsfolk who randomly popped in, but this wintry venture set the tone for an album rich in beauty, instrumentation, politic and heart.
In-Flight Safety has crafted an auditory call to arms. In these seemingly ambiguous times, the fever to connect to one another is fierce. we are an empire, my dear explores this terrain through the lenses of wealth, greed, love, faith and humanity’s ability to change. The musical mapmakers shared their latest findings via their label, Night Danger, as of January 2009. [The Musebox]

In Isolation are a four-piece from Nottingham, UK, who have created an interesting indie sound which tips its hat to the post punk sounds of the 80s, with their debut track ‘The Wrong Girl’. It’s a damn catchy song which keeps you interested throughout with clever lyrics, subtle guitar licks and a good breakdown in the middle, complete with echoey backing vocals and a refreshingly non-predictable guitar solo.
With generous handfuls of punchy guitars, synthy backing and crisp, clear vocals you can hear the new wave influence, but it’s not direct – it’s like they’ve ransacked the 80s and pilfered it’s best bits, whilst adding their own modern indie sound.
They’re playing numerous gigs around Nottingham over the next few months (check their myspace for details), and as I currently hang my hat in that very city I personally can’t wait! See you there guys.

The BLK JKS are a South African afro avant noise rock band. Childhood friends Linda and Mpumi grew up on the same block in Johannesburg’s East Rand, where they taught themselves guitar after Linda’s sister received one as a prize in church choir.
Forming a band in 2003, early BLK JKS shows and recordings we remarkable for their stacks of guitar drone and head nodding beats, but it was with the addition of bassist Molefi and drummer Tsepang—both of Soweto—that BLK JKS began work with a fresh approach and plunged into its current universe of sound. Heavy club dates and festival gigs followed as they band earned a loyal following across the country.
In June 2007 the BLK JKS released a handful of songs as a limited edition CD EP that was quickly snapped up by hardcore fans and knowing collectors. The November 2007 release of the “Lakeside” vinyl-only 10in marks the band’s international debut with a limited edition of 500 selling at some of the world’s best record shops. [last.fm]

From their 5 song EP “1st In A Series Of Dramatic Events”
The Atomica Project is a union of downtempo beats and stunning female vocals, amplified by an organic warmth generally absent from electronic music.
Devised in 2004 by programmer/songwriter Wade Alin and vocalist Lauren Cheatham, The Atomica Project made waves in the chillout/electronic music community with their 2005 debut release Metropolitan. Based heavily on Alin’s personal experiences in New York, Metropolitan illustrates a compelling story of loss, affliction, collapse and recovery. Fueled by heavy podcast rotation, enthusiastic reviews, and an extensive online following.
