Clinical studies indicate that there may be significant overlap between those figures, and that many people diagnosed as mentally ill are in fact merely suffering from caffeine poisoning.”

This session is very loosely themed around… well… caffeine, a fitting tribute recently triggered by a national newspiece around a teenage barista who swilled fourteen shots of expresso on her shift, alternatively crying and laughing while serving customers. Either way, it made think about my own caffeine consumption for a fleeting moment.

Aside from the loose theme, we’ve got a amazing session for you today with the Thousand Oaks based group ‘Amestory’ leading things off followed by local LA powerhouse ‘Sunday Drivers’. These two tracks are flat out amazing and one of the best intros we’ve had on the show to date!

Next up we are previewing the unmixed track ‘Rocker Girl’ from LA duo, ‘The Foundation’. We would love to hear feedback before the song is mixed by seasoned pro, Rae Dileo. Following them are repeat performers ‘Immune’ with 3 Feet Deep, also on the verge of releasing a new album mixed by ‘Sylvia Massy’ of ‘Tool’ & ‘System of a Down’ fame) ‘Moss Bluff’ helps round out the pack, with ‘You’ve Been Had By Agent Orange’, a multi-talented group of LA musicians starting a tour deep into the US and across the pond to the UK in October.

San Diego Soundscape artist and Insomnia favorite, ‘Pensive’ are gearing up for their record release parties in Long Beach and San Diego, and we bring you a trifecta block with LA based ‘Letters Burning’ and Thousand Oaks based, ‘Streets of Rage’, who also have brand new CDs on the eve of release.

Keeping up the trend, we present ‘Ojos Rojos’, a rock outfit from Claremont whom also have a new CD just released, entitled ‘13′, proving once again the inland empire scene is alive and thriving.

Our caffeine consumption reaches a high with ‘Scum of the Earth’, a band formed when ‘Rob Zombie’ set aside his music career to focus on movies. Enjoy the ‘Murder Song’ as well as the beginning and ending clips from the 1974 movie, Deranged. A new CD from ‘SotE’ is on the way entitled ‘Sleaze Freak’.

IR Orlando Point Blank: Semisoul brings the FUNK

This Point Blank episode of Insomnia Radio Orlando focuses on Lakeland’s SemiSoul.

SemiSoul takes a healthy dose of funk and hip hop, mixes in a dash of reggae and blues, and seasons it with jazz and rock to produce a unique blend of organic hip hop with a funk core.

They are in the studio, working on their first full-length release, due later this year. In the meantime, they have a 3-track CD available and will soon be releasing a DVD of a couple of music videos.

SemiSoul plays The Social in Orlando this Thursday, August 23, so if you are in the Central Florida area, please go check them out and let ‘em know you heard them here!

IR: The SoCal Sessions – Road Trip: Florida!

Our session this week takes us a quick sleep deprived, coffee fueled virtual road trip to the state of Florida, where two prolific music shows are quickly uncovering and featuring some of the nations best artists.

Marci Brinker at Insomnia Radio: Orlando just celebrated her one year anniversary at the controls just recently, and has been highlighting such incredible Florida based artists like The Oaks and Timothy Simpson.

IR: San Francisco #48 – Of Canada, the 80’s, and Murphy’s Law

Why such a weird title?

1. Three of the bands featured on this week’s show hail from the Great White North.

2. All the music has a distinctly 80’s new wave/post-punk type of feel. To me, at least.

3. NOTHING WENT RIGHT.

Let me clarify the latter: Oh, the show got recorded all right (obviously, or you wouldn’t be reading this). However, my normally faithful Garageband crashed, resulting in re-recording. The phone rang in the middle of the show. I accidentally inserted the same song twice, resulting in lots of post-production work, cleaning up edits, insert points, volume levels, and artwork for the Enhanced version. And as usual, I fumble and stumble and tumble all over my words. [Sigh...]
