IR: The SoCal Sessions #5 – The Enigmatic “33″
January 29, 2007
A brand new music feed has opened up solely for Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and surrounding areas. Bundled with this feed is a new episode of The SoCal Sessions, namely our fifth release since Jason Evangelho officially smashed a glass over our prow in late October.
We picked some of the best music we could find to package up and fire to you straight down this pristine feed. First up is the buzzworthy band “August House” from Orange County, then stalwart pop pioneers “Smart Brown Handbag” from Los Angeles. This is followed by a three part blast from up and coming LA indie rock groups “The Day”, “Hide All Night”, and the “Mezzanine Owls”. You won’t be disappointed.
Rounding out the bunch comes “Pigeon John”, the self proclaimed karaoke master from Inglewood, followed by a dose of music from Colorado, Jamaica, and Los Angeles, with the latin-tinged reggae stylings of “Mr. Anonymous” featuring “Michael Rose” and “Dave Wakeling”.
As for the title of the show, well, let’s just say it has something to do with age and relaxing with a few green bottles of beer while editing the show. Rock!

Vinyl Radio: If All Was Right
January 19, 2007
Hailing from San Diego, Vinyl Radio is part pub rock and part 80’s & early 90’s classic rock. (TANGENT: Yes, like it or not, most of this is already considered “Classic.” Including Pearl Jam’s earlier recordings. Scary shit…)
Especially on the track “If All Was Right,” where we hear the swagger of The Black Crowes, a taste of rowdier Mellencamp, even vocal stylings that summon Great White! And out of nowhere it hits your ears with a straight up hook that would make any Boston fan proud.
Listen loudly, and then drop them a line.

January 18, 2007
Hey gang! In this episode, I admit a few shortcomings, some unprofessionalism, and basically plead for your understanding with my ignorance. But, again, please don’t pay attention to me: It’s all. About. The MUSIC!

IR: The SoCal Sessions #4 – Powering Into January
January 14, 2007
Hola amigo/amiga,
Welcome to the fourth installment of The SoCal Sessions. Today’s show powers us into January with five independent rock acts from Los Angeles.
Newer groups Power Cords and Pro Audio bring us two femme-themed songs dripping with pop goodness, while The Black Watch sets up Fight from Above’s journey toward the sun with a tale of an angel disappearing into the same fiery mass.
Dramarama anchors the segment after a twelve year hiatus with the happiest song about death you’ve ever heard, written in honor of their late friend, Greg Dwinnell. You may remember them and their infectious hook, “I’ll give you candy…give you diamonds, give you pills! I’ll give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills! I’ll even let you watch the shows you wanna see, just marry me, marry me, maaarryy meee!”.
If not, then I’m dating myself of course pretty acurately as a child of the 80s. Enjoy all!

IR Orlando #14
January 12, 2007
Welcome to my first show of 2007. It’s nice to be back! I have a great lineup of mostly Orlando bands for you today. I hope you like the music!
1. Life Of Pi | Young Jim Hawkins
Based in Tampa, Life of Pi has been heard on IR Orlando before. This track is from their 2005 release ‘Pyrrhic Victory.’ They are working on a new CD and I hope to bring you some brand new songs from that one on a future show. You can also buy several songs from them at their MySpace site, at only 95 cents per track and no DRM!
Lead singer/guitarist Stephen hosts the 11th Hour radio show on WMNF in Tampa on Monday nights from 11pm – 1am. I read that they may be changing their schedule around, but I don’t have the final word on that, so for now, you can listen online or listen to recent archived shows from their website. 11th Hour MySpace page
2. Minimal | El Cubo
Formed in 2003, the members of Minimal have combined their experience into a unique blend of Latin rhythms, intense guitars and drum machines. They play lots of gigs in South Florida, so check their website or MySpace page for upcoming dates.
3. music versus the heart | Finding Isabel
Orlando-based MVTH have 2 releases, including an EP from 2003 and a full-length 2005 CD called ‘Sorry for the Memories.’ They are working on a follow up now.
4. Sean Evan | Traffic Jam
Sean has been doing his solo singer/songwriter thing since 2003. He plays quite a few gigs around Orlando, so check his MySpace page for upcoming shows.
5. Weszt | Can’t Erase You
This is from their new CD ‘morningafterlife,’ the band’s 2nd release. They were recently booked to play the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa on January 27th. Check their website or MySpace for TONS of upcoming dates – they are well worth seeing live.
6. Kingsbury | Blood in the Kitchen
7. Kingsbury| Peninsula
MySpace
I am excited to play these tracks since they are on the about-to-be-released ‘The Great Compromise.’ The band sent me a copy a few weeks ago and it’s excellent, intelligent rock! They are having a CD Release Party at The Social on Friday, Jan 19 which will feature performances by Kingsbury, as well as their Post*Records labelmates The Heathens and Dodger, and Apollo Quartet. Go to the Post*Records website to get your ticket – they are only $10 and include a copy of the new album! This show will sell out, so get your tickets NOW!

IR: San Francisco #30 – Mellowing with Age?
January 10, 2007
After last week’s loud rocker, I decided to tone it done a smidge. Now that the show has hit 30 (episodes, that is), it’s time to start acting like an adult, right? Nah! Enjoy these fine tunes from the SF Bay Area, as well as one from across the pond. Oh, and two songs about pillows? Didn’t even realize it until I started to put these notes together…

IR: San Francisco #29 – New Year’s Epic
January 3, 2007
Welcome to 2007, gang! I’m completely fired up about this episode, as it features nine absolutely kick-ass tracks from (mostly) local bands. (You gotta listen to find out why!) This one is definitely not worksafe, and if you don’t have your speakers cranked to 11, you’re not doing the music justice. Enjoy!
